These days it's rare to see an artist show up with both tradition and true originality on their side. Singer, slinger, troubadour Curtis Glas is just such an artist - a man who has muscled his way onto the scene on his own terms with an identity that is clearly steeped in the tradition of the folk genre, but pushes out toward refreshingly unexpected horizons. That freshness, together with an engaging stage presence, unique arrangements, and a distinguished vocal ability, gives Glas the captivating edge with audiences from all generations & musical tastes.
Glas approaches his music with a producer’s mindset & channels his many influences; from blues to bluegrass, from folk to rockabilly. But he has found a unique voice within it all that has surfaced in his many projects. As a solo artist, Glas charms audiences with his introspective & beautiful songs, each with a story, a unique experience of a prairie upbringing. In 2012, Glas formed The Hired Guns, an entertaining & uncommon duo grinding out “Sawblade Folk” with drummer & vocalist Roan Haysom. His newest project, Curtis Glas & The Ricochets, adds lead guitar player Aaron Penton & upright bassist Tom C. Smith to the mix. Together they drive out lively & memorable performances of roots folkabilly delight.
Glas always has his pen to paper and his ear to the ground; crafting new songs and concocting inspired plans for the future. With a recent EP release (The Hired Guns - 2014) under his belt & armed with a suitcase full of songs and a renewed determination, Glas creates a unique blend of energetic & honest folk/roots music as only he could; polished, but leaving the edges a little rough. Sure to be enjoyed by all audiences, Glas captivates listeners with his original, gutsy, & spirited songs.
